The Fosse Gallery

11th June – 1st July 2017

Annabel Playfair, an accomplished artist, has been chosen by The Fosse Gallery, The Manor House, The Square, Stow on the Wold, Gloucestershire GL54 1AF to hold her inaugural exhibition from Sunday 11th June to Saturday 1 July 2017.  Annabel was classically trained over five years at The City of Guilds of London, Chelsea Art School and Les Beaux Arts in Paris.  Having brought up four children (one boy followed by triplets) she started painting full time three years ago.   There will be around 40 canvases in the exhibition with prices ranging from £800 to £3,000.

Annabel paints mainly en plein air and in all weathers; the bracing wind and rain of the Cotswolds, the heat of the summer sun in Italy and Provence and the racing tides of Devon and Cornwall, is where Annabel can be found, paint brush in hand working at her easel.   In the depths of winter her bright and airy Warwickshire studio is where she paints still life paintings, be they brown trout (caught by her in a Hampshire chalk stream) on a plate alongside a cut lemon and a bunch of asparagus, cow parsley nestling in a jug or a Norfolk lobster.   Her paintings are imbued with their own character through her exploration of detail, colour and form.

‘My passion is colour and I love patterns and colour found in nature.  I am naturally drawn to a purple field of borage or a field full of poppies’ says Annabel.  ‘My first impression of the subject is what ends up on the canvas;   I am always thinking of the moment’.   Subject matters vary from market scenes, olive groves and vineyards in Provence, seascapes include the view looking across at Port Isaac, another is of Lundy Bay, Cornwall.  Cotswold scenes are of bluebell woods in the Spring, linseed and barley fields, poppy and borage fields at the height of summer, alongside fields full of hay bales in early Autumn.  Many of the still lifes of lilies, chrysanthemums and peonies are painted on large scale canvases, all bursting with colour and life.

The complete exhibition can be viewed on-line at www.fossegallery.com from mid May. Opening hours are Monday – Saturday, 10.30am to 5.00pm.
